In this article, I’ll show you four little-known tips for repairing a scratched CD or DVD and recovering the data on it.
Everyone has had trouble with using a scratched CD or DVD. The theory is this: a CD / DVD player or player uses a laser beam to read data from the disc.
This laser beam goes through the protective plastic layer and reads the actual recording metal layer. If the protective plastic layer is scratched, the laser will not be able to pass, resulting in an unreadable disc.
In the case of data CDs, the CD / DVD player cannot read the CD / DVD correctly, resulting in read errors, while in the case of audio / video discs, the CD player skips when we reproduce it.
If we somehow manage to soften this protective layer again, then the laser will reach the data and read it, now there are many ways to achieve this using common household items, as explained below:
1). Toothpaste – Yes! Toothpaste is our first scratched CD / DVD fixer, you can use any non-gel toothpaste for this, just put a very small amount on the scratched area and buff it gently with a cotton swab on the scratched part of cd/dvd.
Sometimes the paste can cause new minor scratches but they are only superficial. Now just wash the cd with water.
2). If the above trick doesn’t work, try a metal polish like Brasso, rubbing gently with a soft cotton ball followed by applying petroleum jelly.
3). Baking Soda: Make a small amount of baking soda paste and apply with a soft cotton cloth to polish the scratch. You need to clean the baking soda before using the disc.
4). You can also try using a little oil as a polishing agent, this works many times too.
There are many daily use products that can be used to make the CD work, just keep experimenting, please note that you need to take special care when using the tips above such as
